Charles Manson

I'm not your executioner.
I'm not your devil and
I'm not your God.
I'm Charles Manson.

The Manson Impact

Charles Manson is an infamous figure in the history of the United States. Believe it or not some people look up to him still. As i was going through comments on YouTube videos i saw comments like “FREE MANSON!” and “Leave the man alone.” Imagine if there was someone else insane as him today.

Manson was a very charismatic guy as far as from what i read. His charming and persuasive ways played a big role in him beginning his cult known as the “Manson Family.” Due to his persuasive ways he was compared to Adolf Hitler a lot. Just like Hitler his evil ways will live on in American history. The case of this man and what he was capable of is scary. He was not a normal man. But his insanity isn’t the only thing to blame for this.  Him being able to get a large amount of people together to go on a killing spree for him to kill even a larger amount of people is also the problem. Either way you put it, his “legacy” will live on in American history forever.

Lots Of Time To Himself

Charles Manson is now 74, he’s locked away in protective custody at Corcoran State Prison in Corcoran, about 150 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Manson has his own cell. His exposure to prison neighbors that include mass killer Juan Corona and Robert F. Kennedy’s assassin, Sirhan Sirhan, is very limited there at prison. But he had a lot of time to think about what he has done, and he still has a lot more time.

Summary Of The Manson Family Trial.

Charles Manson led the “Manson Family,” a quasi-commune that arose in the U.S. state of California in the later 1960s. He was found guilty of conspiracy to commit the Tate-LaBianca murders, which members of the group carried out at his instruction. Through the “joint-responsibility” rule of conspiracy, he was convicted of the murders themselves.

Manson is associated with “Helter Skelter”, the term he took from the Beatles song of that name and construed as an apocalyptic race war that the murders were intended to precipitate. This connection with rock music linked him, from the beginning of his road to becoming notorious, with pop culture, and when he became an emblem of insanity, and violence. The term was used as the title of the book that prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosi wrote about the murders that Charles Manson commited.

At the time the Family began to form, Manson was an unemployed ex-convict, who spent half his life in correctional institutions for a variety of offenses. In the period before the murders, he was a distant member of the Los Angeles music industry, mainly from a chance association with Beach Boy, Dennis Wilson. After Manson was charged with the crimes, recordings of songs written and performed by him were released commercially; artists including Guns ‘N’ Roses and Marilyn Manson have covered his songs through out the years since he has been convicted.

Manson’s death sentence was automatically reduced to life in prison when a decision by the Supreme Court of California temporarily removed the state’s death penalty. California eventually reestablished the punishment. But, did not affect Manson, who is an inmate at Corcoran State Prison.

The Beginning…

Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His16-year-oldmother, Kathleen Maddox was promiscuous, a criminal, she was analcoholic, and shefailed to take care of her child. Soon after his birth, Kathleen was shortly married to William Manson, and Charlie’s last name changed from Maddox to Manson. Kathleen grew up in a strict religious home and seemed to rebel against all she was taught. In 1940, she was found guilty of Strong Armed Robbery and sent to prison.

As a young child, Manson was given mixed messages. At six yeas old Manson was moved to various relatives. His grandmother subjected him to the fanatical religious standards. One uncle he stayed with decided Manson was too feminine, so dressed him as a girl for his first day of school. Another uncle, while caring for Manson, killed himself in protest to the authorities taking his land. There were no consistent modes of behavior for Manson to live by, a fact that carried into his adulthood.
